What does Marley represent in the novella?

The juxtaposition of ‘dead’ and ‘begin’ is an oxymoron, and introduces the themes of death and rebirth

Scrooge first tries to hide his fear, even though Marley ‘disturbed the very marrow in his bones’
But when Marley gives a ‘frightful cry’, Scrooge starts ‘trembling’
What does Marley mean when he says ‘Mankind was my business’?
He is expressing his regret that he focused on hoarding money during his life instead of caring for others and using his money to do good
