Relations of production
Relationship between capitalist, producer + what’s produced
Surplus Profit
Maximum profit + money left over after paying bills/wages
False Consciousness
Someone is unaware they’re experiencing slavery - treatment is normalised
Alienation
When a worker feels disconnected from society and unaware of opportunities
Bourgeoisie
Rich/elite business owners – exploit employees for money
Proletariat
Poor/working class – majority of the population
Petit Bourgeoisie
Shopkeepers/merchant class
Landed Gentry
Historic land owners that may not use the land they own/don’t profit from it?
Rents
Money paid to use land/live on the property
Rentier Class
Small group of capitalists that make money from owning land/property. E.g. The King
Socialism
The social welfare of citizens
Social Ownership
An asset is seen as a key aspect of the economy. E.g. services
Repressive state apparatus
The use of force to benefit the ruling class
Ideological state apparatus
Institutions create a world view that benefit the ruling class - E.g. Mass media
Cultural hegemony
Overwhelming image created by the ruling class to justify their roles in society
Rentier capitalism
a group of people/businesses that own a majority of assets - generate income from rents
Commodification
Creating stuff to sell inspired by pre-existing things like air.
Supply Side Inflation
Aim to increase supply in both the short and long term
Paradox of commodification
Where you find something to sell, sell it and then eventually run out - the local capitalism will collapse
