A

That economy was the driving force of society, and it was this that influenced the nature of social institutions and people’s values and beliefs.

What was the the divided parts of society, according to marixists?

A

1) the economic base ‘infrastructure’ consists of:
-the means of production, land, factory’, raw material, technology, labour which is necessary to produce society’s goods
-the relation of production, shared or private ownership between those that are involved in production eg whether people are forced to work, like slaves or are paid for work

2) the superstructure which includes:
- family, education, the media, religion, political system, beliefs and values ( which Marx saw as primarily determined by the economic system
