A

Folic Acid = B9. “B” stands for “brain” because it decreases incidence of neural tube defects. Client should start taking B9 3 months prior to getting pregnant.

A

Begin prior to peak of contraction and end at end of contraction. If variability normal and FHR within normal range, normal. Head compression.

Variable Decels

A
V-shaped on monitoring strip. Can occur anytime during fetal monitoring. Caused by cord compression.
Actions:
-change mom's position
-STOP pitocin infusion
-give O2
-increase IV fluids
-contact MD if persists

Late Decels

A
Occurs after peak of contraction and mirrors contraction in length and intensity. Caused by uteroplacental insufficiency.
Actions:
-STOP pitocin infusion
-give O2
-increase IV fluids
-contact MD if persists
