Math Vocabulary Flashcards
(25 cards)
The distance of a number from zero on the number line. Always positive.
Absolute value
A combination of variables numbers and at least one operation.
Algebraic expressions
The number that is raised to a power.
Base
The number by which a variable is multiplied. Ex:the 2 in 2x
Coefficient
This is formed when 2 number lines intersect at there zero points.
Coordinate plane
a(b+c)=ab+ac
Distributive property
The number that tells how many factors there are of the base.
Exponent
The inequality symbol>
Greater than
A mathematical sentence that compares 2 unequal expressions using one of the symbols.,greater than or equal to,less than or equal to,or not equal to.
Inequality
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Operation
Numbers that have the same digit but opposite values. Ex:3 and -3
Opposite numbers
The intersection of the x-axis and y-axis
Origin
Numbers with a value larger than zero.
Positive numbers
Numbers expressed using a base and an exponent.
Powers
Positive numbers, negative numbers, and zero.
Integers
The inequality symbol
Less than
Terms containing the same variable.
Like terms
Numbers with a value less than zero.
Negative numbers
This is used to name a point on the coordinate plane.
Origin
The four regions separated by the x-axis and y-axis within a coordinate plane.
Quadrants
A symbol, usually a letter, used to represent a number.
Variable
The horizontal number line in the coordinate plane.
X-axis
The first number of the ordered pair.
X-coordinate
The vertical number line in the coordinate plane.
Y-axis
