What is HCF and what does it stand for?

A

Highest common factor - largest whole number which is shared by other given numbers .For example, common factors of 10 and 20 are 1, 2, 5 and 10, but the highest of those is 10; therefore, the highest common factor of 10 and 20 is 10.

What is LCM and what does it stand for?

A

Lowest common multiple - The lowest common multiple is the lowest multiple shared by two or more numbers. For example, common multiples of 4 and 6 are 12, 24 and 36, but the lowest of those is 12; therefore, the lowest common multiple of 4 and 6 is 12.
