A recipe calls for a ratio of 3:2 of flour to sugar. If you use 600g of flour, how much sugar do you need?
Since the ratio is 3:2, divide 600g by 3 to find one part:
600 ÷ 3 = 200g per part.
A school has 180 boys and 120 girls. What is the ratio of boys to girls in its simplest form?
The ratio is 180:120. Simplify by dividing both by 60:
180 ÷ 60 = 3, 120 ÷ 60 = 2.
So, the simplified ratio is 3:2.
A store is offering a 25% discount on a $120 jacket. What is the new price after the discount?
Find 25% of $120:
(25 ÷ 100) × 120 = $30 discount.
New price = $120 - $30 = $90.
A laptop originally cost $800 but increased in price by 15%. What is the new price?
Find 15% of $800:
(15 ÷ 100) × 800 = $120 increase.
New price = $800 + $120 = $920.
A car travels 240 km in 4 hours. What is its average speed?
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
Speed = 240 ÷ 4 = 60 km/h.
A worker earns $750 for 25 hours of work. What is their hourly rate?
Hourly rate = Total earnings ÷ Total hours
= 750 ÷ 25 = $30 per hour.
If you invest $5000 in a savings account with an annual simple interest rate of 4% for 3 years, how much interest will you earn?
Simple Interest = P × r × t
= 5000 × (4 ÷ 100) × 3
= 5000 × 0.04 × 3
= $600 interest.
A phone is priced at $900. If a customer pays a deposit of 20%, how much is left to pay?
Deposit = 20% of 900
= (20 ÷ 100) × 900
= $180.
Amount left to pay = $900 - $180 = $720.
