Maths Flashcards
(20 cards)
What is a population?
The entire set of items in interest
What is a sample?
A selection of observations taken from a subset of the population
What is a sampling unit?
Individual members or items in a population
What is a sampling frame?
A list of all the units in the population
What is a census?
A survey of the entire population
What is discrete data?
Data that can take certain values within a range, often integer values (count)
What is continuous data?
Data that can take numerical value (measure)
What is quantitative data?
Data that has numerical value
What is qualitative data?
Non-numerical data, words
Correlation for PMCC
-/+1 until -/+0.9 is very strong negative correlation
-/+0.9 until -/+0.7 is strong negative correlation
-/+0.7 until -/+0.3 is moderate negative correlation
-0.3 until 0.3 is no correlation
Mutually Exclusive
Cant occur at the same time
-> P(AnB) = 0
Can use P(AuB) = P(A) + P(B)
Exhaustive events
Cover every eventuality
P(AuB) = 1
OR P(ĀnB’) = 0
Statistically Independent
If events A and B are statistically independent then
P(AnB) = P(A) x P(B)
This means one event has no effect on another
When is Binomial Probability used?
Used when
- two outcomes
- fixed number of trials
- trials are independent
Which calculator mode is used when P(S=n)?
Binomial PD
Which calculator mode is used when P(S ≤ n )
Binomial CD
What is bivariate data?
A dataset in which two variables are involved
What is correlation?
A link or dependence between two variables
What is regression?
A method to determine the strength and character of the relationship between two variables
Probability Addition Law
For non mutually exclusive events
P(AuB) = P(A) +P(B) - P(AnB)
