Q

how do you factorise x^2 x 7x + 12?

A

(x + 3)(x+4) 4x3 = 12, 4 + 3 = 7

17
Q

how do you solve x^2 + 7x + 12 = 0

A

(x+3) ( X+4) = 0, means y = 0, x + 3 = 0, if take away 3 and 4 from both sides x = -3 and x = -4 (intercept 9 at 0 at those points)

18
Q

how do you find the 50th term when the nth term= 4n - 1

A

4x50 - 1 = 200 - 1 = 199

24
Q

If Craig and Ian share money in ratio 8:3 and Craig recieves £32, how much does Ian receive?

A

32 / 8 = 4, 8 x 4 = 32, 3 x 4 = 12, 32:12, Ian receives £12

25
If Emily and James share money in ratio 4:7 & James receives £21 more than Emily, how much do they share between them?
4:7, 7 - 4 = 3, 7x3 = 21, 4 x 3 = 7, 4 x 7 = 28, 7 x 7 = 49, 49 + 28 = 77, Answer £77
26
If a car has to travel 30 miles along motor way in 24 mins, will the car have to travel faster than 70mph to get there in 24 minutes?
70 miles = 60 minutes, 70 / 10 = 7, 60 / 10 = 6, 7 miles = 6 minutes, 6 x 4 = 24, 7 x 4 = 28, 28 miles = 24 minutes, wont make it in 24 minutes.
27
Karl goes up to 20 miles away from home in 30 minutes, what was his speed?
20/0.5 = 40km/h
28
Karl spends 15 mins at the shops & travels back at 60km/h, when will he get back?
20/60 = 1/3, 1/3 of an hour = 60 / 3 = 20, at 45 already + 20 = 65 minutes, took 20 minutes to get home.
29
How do u find the volume of a cuboid with 12 bottom length, 8 side length and 14 top length?
8x12 = 96cm^2, 96 x 14 = 1344cm^3
30
How do u find the volume of a cylinder with 4cm radius and 15cm length?
pi x 4^2 = 16 pi 16 pi x 15 = 240 pi
31
if the probability of getting a red counter is 0.2, and the probably for blue is 0.5, what is the probability for getting white or black if they are the same? If there is 60 counters in the bag, how many arae white? If we didn't know there were 60 counters, and we only know there are 12 counters, how many counters are in the bag?
0.3 = 0.30 / 2 = 0.15. 15% of 60 = 9. 20% = 12 / 2 10% = 6 x 10 = 100
