MATS Toolbox Flashcards
R2 - 20NM Definite passing requirements?
- In CTA only between aircraft with approved SCNS.
- Using the same waypoint, reports indicate aircraft have passed and distance is opening
D8b - 5NM Definite passing requirements?
- GNSS in CTA only by RNP2/4 aircraft with reference to a published waypoint.
- Reports indicate aircraft have passed and distance is opening.
- Do not mix DME/GNSS. If using DME, ensure one aircraft is within 20NM of the DME Beacon.
A4 - 30NM ADSC Definite Pass
-Demand contract to each aircraft prior to using the standard.
-Both have RNP4 approval and in RNP airspace
- Reports indicate aircraft have passed and distance is opening.
R5 - 50NM definite passing
-Both have RNP4/RNP10 approval and in RNP airspace
-Reports indicate aircraft have passed and distance is opening.
T7C - Sight and Pass
-Both aircraft report sighting and passing the other by day (and in OCA by night)
-Both aircraft are ABOVE 10,000 ft.
- No possibility of incorrect identification by either aircarft.
10.3.4.9 Closing speeds requirements?
10.3.4.9 Closing speeds
Closing speed between aircraft may exist, provided that:
a) separation is in excess of the minimum distance required;
b) distance checks are made at intervals not exceeding 15 min; and
c) when aircraft are cruising at levels not vertically separated, the closing speed is not greater than 35 kt IAS or Mach 0.06.
MNT Requirements?
Mach Number Technique
When applying MNT:
a) only apply between jet aircraft with approved SCNS;
b) do not assign a block level clearance;
c) use a common point, defined as:
i) a geographical point on the aircraft’s track over which both aircraft will
fly; or
ii) a point along the individual track of each aircraft which is equidistant
from the geographical point described in ‘i)’; and
d) base application on the requirement that the last assigned Mach number will be
maintained at all times, including during any climbs or descents.
Checking the distance requirements?
- Check the distance between aircraft at least every 30 minutes
- Or at sufficient intervals to ensure that the required separation is maintained.

How close can an identified and non-identified track get to UJ/PY in Gbefore boundary coord is required?
Identified: Up to the boundary.
Non-Identified: Up to the boundary.
CEP is not included in OCTA.
(an aircraft 50R of route + T CEP will only be considered for their route + 50R, not Route + 50 + 15)
T6b - 10/15min after time of passing requirements?
Vert must exist until the estimated time of passing PLUS
a) the route longitudinal time standard
b) 10 mins between aircraft equipped with approved SCNS
D2 - 20 NM DME/GNSS Cruise requirements?
Distance information is provided by:
a) DME; or
b) GNSS in CTA only, by RNP2/4 approved aircraft.
D4a - 15 NM One aircraft maintains, other changes level requirements?
a) Distance info provided by DME; or GNSS in CTA only; by RNP2/4 approved aircraft.
b) One maintains level while vert does not exist
c) Above FL290, when a DME distance is provided, both aircraft must be on the same side of the DME beacon.
T6a - 10/15mins before time of passing requirements?
During a change of level, vertical separation must exist by the estimated time of passing MINUS:
a) The time standard as applicable to the route
b) 10 minutes between aircraft equipped with approved SCNS
D8a - 10/12 NM, definite passing requirements?
a) Distance information is provided by:
i) DME; or
ii) GNSS, in CTA only, by RNP2 or RNP4
approved aircraft with reference to a published waypoint;
b) Do not mix GNSS and DME distances;
c) Use on reciprocal tracks and tracks differing by more than 90 degrees;
d) Reports indicate that the aircraft have passed and the distance is opening; and
e) Increase the standard to 12 NM if DME
distances are greater than 180 NM.
What are the two phraseologies for an aircraft who may enter a restricted area, and when would they each be used?
Unauthorised entry into active restricted area or military operating area has occurred, or is imminent:
[Safety Alert]?, Restricted airspace (or Military operating area) active, [SUGGEST] Turn Left/right immediately heading (three digits)
When unauthorised deviation into restricted area or military operating area is unavoidable:
Unable to issue clearance. Proceed at your own risk. Squawk 7700. [Control services terminated?]
A Singapore A350 falls off ADSB and turns into a triangle.
What is the phraseology used?
[Identification terminated], Adsb transmissions not received, confirm ADSB operation.
YBBB - Moresby coordination requirement OCTA and CTA?
OCTA: 10 minutes
CTA: 20 minutes
What is special about the W677 (GODIP -> ASIXA) Route?
Flights at FL240 or below via GODIP only need to be coordinated to Moresby if they deviate East.
Moresby FIS will coordinate to Brisbane ATC any flights that will operate within 15 NM of W677
What are the main Traffic Parameters?
IFR to VFR traffic, what’s our responsibility?
- Less than 1000ft
- Less than 15 minutes Long/Lat
- Less than 10 minutes longitudinally
- Less than 10 minutes at an aerodrome.
IFR to VFR, pass traffic to IFR. (Can pass to VFR if needed or quiet).
Phraseology for an aircraft who is about to experience an unauthorised descent into another aircraft?
Prioritise telling the other, complying, aircraft to turn first.
AVOIDING ACTION, turn (L/R) IMMEDIATELY heading 090/180/270/360.
Give Mutual Avoiding action as required, then pass mutual traffic.
