Matter
Anything that has mass(the amount of material) and volume(takes up space).
Made of atoms
Element
Contain only one atom, or only one type of atom.
Atom
The smallest particle of an element that remains that element.
One atom from a block of gold is still gold.
Molecule
A group of two or more atoms bonded together.
Particle
A tiny part of matter, usually an atom or molecule.
Chemical change
A change in matter where one or more new substances is created.
Physical change
A change in matter where there is NO new substance created.
Definitive indicator
The presence of a new KIND of matter that shows us that there has been a chemical reaction.
Conduction
Energy is transferred by fast moving particles hitting the slower moving particles.
Condensation
Water vapor (gas) slows down to overcome their speed to become liquid.
Evaporation
Liquid particles gain energy and break away from one another to become a gas.
Melting
Orderly arrangement (in a solid) collapses (becomes undone) and particles become liquid.
Freezing
Particles slow down enough to be in a fixed position (not moving around).
