Maxillary Division Flashcards
(31 cards)
What does V2 Maxillary Nerve supply?
Supplies maxillary facial & lingual gingiva, Max teeth, palatal mucosa, nasopharynx, hard/soft palate
What is the branch given off @ middle cranial fossa of V2 Maxillary
Middle Meningeal Nerve
What does the Branch Middle Meningeal Nerve supply?
Supply sensory to dura (tough fibrous membrane) to cover brain/spinal cord
Then what does V2, Maxillary course through?
Courses through foramen rotundum-to- Pterygopalatine Fossa (Pterygopalatine Ganglion-bulge/bump)
What are the 4 branches of V2, given off at the Pterygopalatine Fossa?
Zygomatic, Pterygopalatine, Posterior Superior Alveolar, Infraorbital
What are the 2 sub-branches off Zygomatic
Zygomaticofacial & Zygomaticotemporal
The Zygomatic courses through…
Leaves Pterygopalatine fossa-through- infraorbital fissure-into- the orbit
What does sub-branch Zygomaticofacial Supply?
Supplies sensory to skin over the zygomatic bone
What does sub-branch Zygomaticotemporal Supply?
Supplies sensory to anterior portion of temporal fossa
Where does the Pterygopalatine Nerves stay?
Unite/stay @ Pterygopalatine Ganglion
What are the 4 sub-branches off Pterygopalatine Nerves
Orbital, Nasal, Palatine, and Pharyngeal
What does the Orbital branch course/supply?
Course Pterygopalatine Fossa-through-infraorbital fissure-into- Orbit. Supply Periosteum of Orbit/Sphenoid Sinus
What does the Nasal branch course/travel through?
Pterygopalatine Fossa-to- Sphenopalatine Foramen-to- Nasal Cavity (nasal septum)-to- incisive canal, where the two nerves UNITE to form 1 nerve-through- incisive foramen
What is the 1 sub/sub-division of the Nasal Branch
The Nasopalatine Nerve
Where is the location of the sphenopalatine foramen?
it’s on the medial wall of the Pterygopalatine Fossa
What 2 structures does the Nasopalatine Nerve supply?
Lingual Gingiva of Max Anterior Teeth & Palatal Mucosa in Pre-Maxilla area (anterior to canines)
Where does the Greater Palatine Nerve branch course/travel through?
Pterygopalatine Fossa-to- Pterygopalatine Canal-to- Greater Palatine Canal-to- Greater Palatine Foramen (distal to Max 2nd molar)-to- Palatine Groove (where the vertical meets horizontal), upto the pre-maxilla
What are the 2 sub/sub-divisions of the Palatine Branch?
Greater Palatine Nerve & Lesser Palatine Nerve
What 2 structures does the Greater Palatine Nerve supply?
Supplies Lingual Gingiva of Max Posterior Teeth & Palatal Mucosa to Midline.
What does the Lesser Palatine Nerve course/travel through/supply?
Through Pterygopalatine Fossa-to- Pterygopalatine Canal-to- Lesser Palatine Canal-to- Lesser Palatine Foramen, supplies Sensory to mucous membrane of soft palate, 2-3mm distal to GP (if inject too distal, patient can’t breath)
What does the Pharyngeal Branch supply/course through?
No oral supply, however, supplies mucous membrane of nasopharynx, Pterygopalatine Fossa-to- Pharyngeal Canal-to- Nasopharynx (branches off V2 before infraorbital fissure)
What does the Posterior Superior Alveolar Nerve course/travel through?
Pterygopalatine Fossa -to- External Branch (to- Infratemporal surface of posterior maxilla), and to- Internal Branch (into-PSA Foramina)
What does the External Branch of PSA supply?
Facial Gingiva of Max Molars, except, for Mesio-buccal root of 1st Molar
What does the Internal Branch of PSA supply?
Maxillary Molars, except, for Mesio-buccal root of 1st Molar
