A shatterbelt is a region caught in between two conflicting powers. Balkanization is the process of breaking up a region into smaller pieces.

an exclave is a part of a country that is seperate from the main part.
Ex- alaska and hawaii.
An enclave is a country completely surrounded by another country.
Ex- Vatican city and Lesotho

Nationality is based on where the person is from. Ethnicity is based on the common cultural characteristics
