- check prescription
- ensure drug order is written appropriately
- check last time of administration

- check stock count with CD register
- check label, drug name, strength dose, route of administration and expiry date
- record this does and balance stock in CD register

- check prescription dose against container
- identify correct patient
- prep and administer drug appropriately

- record in CD register and patient chart
- observe and monitor
- dispose of equipment appropriately

a bound book, entries made in ink with a separate page for each class of drug
