Mean, Mode, Median, Range Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is a polygon?
A polygon is a 2D shape made from straight lines.
What defines a regular polygon?
A regular polygon has equal sides and equal angles.
What is an irregular polygon?
An irregular polygon has either not equal sides or not equal angles or both.
What is frequency in a data set?
Frequency is a number of times a data point appears in a data set.
How is the mean defined?
The mean is the average, defined as the sum of the data divided by the total frequency.
What is the median?
The median is the item that is in the middle of the data when in numerical order.
What is the mode in statistics?
The mode is the data with the highest frequency.
What should be done with normal outliers?
Normal outliers should be removed from a sample to give the most representative mean and median.
What are outliers?
Outliers are any items of data that are abnormally large or small compared to the rest of the data.
What is the range in a data set?
The range is the difference between the highest and lowest number in a data set.
What are parallel lines?
Parallel lines do not touch.
What are corresponding angles?
Corresponding angles are on the same side and have equal measure.
What does ‘interior’ refer to?
Interior refers to the inside.
What does ‘exterior’ refer to?
Exterior refers to the outside.
What is a vertex?
A vertex is where the lines of the angles meet.
How to find the mean?
You add the numbers and divide by the number of items.
What does the upside left M symbol mean?
It means to sum or to add up, called Sigma.
What is cumulative frequency?
Cumulative frequency is a running total like at a shop till.
What does frequency refer to in a group?
Frequency refers to the total for that group.
