-> one who knows they have nothing/ the broke will be fixed / are fixed
-> I’m not self-sufficient. I need Christ to live a Christian life
-> when we have nothing, we see our real need for Christ to guide us
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”
-> Brokenness is a place of renewal
-> Jesus taught us to have faith, hope, and love ( knowing Jesus means we already have hope)
-> we do not mourn without having hope for the future
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth”
-> humility is strength
-> Meek = “ During injury with patience and without resentment, “strength contained”
-> We DON’T VIOLATE other people’s dignity and are NOT ARROGANT and don’t stand out
“Blessed are they who hunger for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied”
-> righteous person has a social conscience and will
-> spiritual hunger
-> Happy doesn’t equal filled. You can’t have enough justice
“Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain Mercy”
-> calls us to be forgiving when others hurt us
-> ask for forgiveness when we hurt others
-> It’s only by showing Mercy that we will know mercy
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”
-> Pure in heart = have inner moral righteousness & sincerity
-> devoted to God alone (Mary)
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God”
-> requires taking action
-> reconciles people with God and each other
-> builds Bridges ( peacemakers often fail)
“Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”
-> Persecuted = treated unjustly because of their beliefs, actions, culture, etc.
-> courage and commitment to Christ’s followers
-> We don’t hope to be rewarded in this world, but in eternity
