What is mass?
The amount of matter in an object( how heavy it is due to matter)
In class, what will we measure mass in?
Grams.
What tool do we use to measure mass?
Scale/Electronic Balance.
What is mass not?
Weight.
What does weight measure?
The force with which gravity pulls on an object.
What is volume?
The amount of space occupied by a sample of matter.
What are the units for volume?
cm^3
What tools do we use to measure volume?
Graduated cylinder.
Why is volume a derived unit?
Because we must calculate several measurements to find it.
What is length?
The measurement or extent of something from end to end. (how long it is or the distance traveled).
What units do we use for length?
Centimeters.
What tool do we use to measure length?
Rulers.
What does temperature measure?
The average kinetic energy of the particles in matter.
What is kinetic energy?
Energy due to motion.
What units do we use to measure temperature?
Celsius.
