Why is it important to take accurate body measurements in garment construction?
Accurate measurements ensure a proper fit for the garment.
What should the person being measured wear?
Proper fitting undergarments.
What should you avoid while taking measurements?
Keep the person away from mirrors to prevent them from standing too erect.
How do you measure the neck?
Measure around the base of the neck, allowing space for ease.
How do you measure the bust?
Measure around the fullest part of the bust, allowing the tape to run over the apex of the breast.
Bust is measured for women with breasts.
How do you measure the chest?
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, just under the arms.
Chest is measured for men, boys, and small children without breasts.
How do you measure the waist?
Ask the person where their natural waist is most comfortable and measure around that area.
How do you measure the hip?
Measure around the widest part of the hip, allowing the tape to run over the fullest part of the buttocks.
How do you measure the thigh?
Measure around the fullest part of the thigh just under the crotch.
How do you measure crotch depth?
Have the person sit upright on a chair and measure from the waist to the surface of the chair.
What three measurements are needed for the sleeve?
Wrist, bicep, and length.
How do you measure the wrist?
Measure loosely just above the wrist bone.
How do you measure the bicep?
Measure around the fullest part of the upper arm.
How do you measure the sleeve length?
Measure from the shoulder bone to the wrist, running the tape over a slightly bent elbow.
