A

-Cover wide range of offences than the Criminal survey for England and Wales (CSEW) include crime against business and non residents such as visitors and tourist
-But it doesn’t include crimes that are not reported to discovered by or recorded by the police

Can we trust official statistics as much as we think?

A
  • Detection-not all crimes are detected.If it hasn’t been detected then we cannot include it in our official statistics
  • Reporting- Many crimes are not reported by the police.Not everyone can call in and report their crimes
  • Recording-Not all reported crimes by the police only about 40% of offences are actually recorded by police

A

-It’s valid because it’s done by government professional
-It’s reliable because everyone gets the same questions and can be repeated a lot
-it’s not represent all people because dark figures crime
