What is a peak flow meter?

A

Simple device that measures the rate at which air can be expelled from the lungs. Used by asthmatic people.

What is a Vitalograph?

A

More sophisticated versions of the peak flow metre. Patient breathes out as quickly as they can through mouthpiece, and instrument produces graph of the amount and rate of air breathed out.

What is a spirometer?

A

Commonly used to measure different aspects of the lung volume, or to investigate breathing patterns.

A

Reacts with the carbon dioxide in order to prevent the levels from becoming too high and reaching toxic levels

A

-There must be medical grade oxygen in the chamber
