What is the seminoles airframe made out of?
Aluminium. A semi monocoque structure
Is the seminole designed for aerobatic loads?
No
What trim devices does our seminoles have?
Rudder and stabilator trim
What tab does the stabilator have and which direction does it move?
- Anti servo tab
- tab moves same direction as stabilator but with increase travel
What happens to rudder effectiveness with anti servo tab?
Increases
How are the flaps operated in the seminole?
Manually (spring loaded)
What are the 4 different flap selections?
0, 10, 25, 40 degrees
Can the flaps be stepped on by passengers? If so what setting?
Yes, keeps flaps fully retracted whilst loading/unloading passengers
What happens to pitch in the seminole when using flaps? What do we do to counter?
Pitch down.
Requires back pressure
Where is the stall warning device located?
Under the left leading edge of the wing
What type of engine does the seminole have? Explain its details
Lycoming 180HP 4 Cylinder Carburettor Direct driven Horizontally opposed Air cooled
What is the make of the engine?
0-360-E1A6D
What fuel grade is required for the seminole?
100 or 100LL
What oil is required for the seminole?
W100+
What is max, min and oxford oil requirements?
Max 6
Min 2
Oxford 4
What do cowl flaps do?
Allows more air to escape engine and more air to flow over engine
What effect does cowl flaps have on drag?
Increases parasite drag
How are cowl flaps operated in the seminole?
Mechanically
When would you use cowl flaps?
Oil temps getting to yellow arc
Which direction do you turn the primer when unlocking?
Turn clockwise until locking pin is free
How many primes for a cold engine? How about for a warm engine?
Cold 8 primes
Warm 3-4 primes
Where does carby heat get the air from?
Passing induction air past hot engine exhaust manifold
What are the seminole props? Describe them
Hartzell 2 bladed 74” with constant speed unit
Hydraulically actuated
Full feathering
Which direction do the props rotate?
Counter rotating props
