mechanims Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is an effort, fulcrum and load? Give an example of a third-class lever
effort: output
fulcrum: a point at which the beam pivots
load: input
e.g of third-class,broom,fishing rod,human arm
what are the four different types of motions?
The answers are: rotary/circular,oscillating,linear and reciprocating.
which mechanism is the one attached to a power source?
driver/driving pulley
in an open drive system,do the pulleys rotate in the opposite or same direction?
they rotate in the same direction
which class lever has the fulcrum in the middle of the effort and the load
first class
which class lever has the effort located between the load and the fulcrum
third class
which class lever has the load located between the effort and the fulcrum
second class
what are the three different types of cams?
snail cam, pear cam and eccentric cam
which class lever is a crowbar and a wire stripper
first class lever
what does scamper stand for?
substitute
combine
apply
modify
put to other uses
eliminate
reverse/rearrange
what terms might products be analysed by?
functions/material/ergonomics/manufacture/cost/asthetics
why is a mock-up done?
A mock-up is normally made during development to help the designer to
a) determine the critical dimensions
b) test mechanisms or interesting features before constructing them with the
actual materials.
