Q

What was the sequence of events that lead to Viking migration

A

From c789- c856, vikings raided England and Scotland, attacking villages and towns and monasteries and abbeys that were close to the coast for treasures and goods

In 865 the great Viking army landed in East Anglia. The vikings had now decided that they wanted to settle in England for its fertile lands

In 866, the Vikings captured York and used it as a base for capturing Northumbria, east anglia and Mercia

In 878, Alfred of Wessex ( the one remaining Saxon kingdom) and Guthurm, leader of the Vikings, agreed to the treaty of wedmore. This established that the Vikings migrants now owned large parts of England and ran it under their own laws (Dane law)
