Medial compartment of thigh Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Gracilis:
* Origin
* Insertion
* Nerve supply
* Action
A
- Origin - inferior ischiopubic ramus
- Insertion - Medial tibia at pes anserinus.
- Nerve supply - Anterior branch of obturator nerve (L2-4).
- Action - Knee flexion, hip adduction, medial rotation of tibia on femur.
2
Q
Adductor longus:
* Origin
* Insertion
* Nerve supply
* Action
A
- Origin - anterior aspect of the pubic body inferior to the pubic crest.
- Insertion - linea aspera on the middle third of the femur.
- Nerve supply - Anterior division of obturator nerve (L2-4).
- Action - Hip adduction.
Also plays a role in hip flexion/ER. Along with the other hip adductors, it helps to stabilise the pelvis in standing and aids in balancing the body on the lower limb during walking
3
Q
Adductor brevis:
* Origin
* Insertion
* Nerve supply
* Action
A
- Origin - body and inferior ramus of the pubic bone.
- Insertion - linea aspera on the posterior surface of the femur, proximal to the adductor longus.
- Nerve supply - Anterior division of obturator nerve (L2-4).
- Action - hip adduction.
4
Q
Adductor magnus:
* Origin
* Insertion
* Nerve supply
* Action
A
- Origin - hamstring part - arises from the ischial tuberosity. Adductor part - ischiopubic ramus.
- Insertion - hamstring part - adductor tubercle of medial condyle of femur and supracondylar line. Adductor part - posterior surface of proximal femur, middle linea aspera and medial supracondylar line.
- Nerve supply - hamstring part - tibial part of sciatic nerve (L4-S1).
Adductor part - posterior division of obturator nerve (L2-4) - Action - Hip adduction/IR. Dynamic stabiliser of pelvis and femur.
5
Q
Obturator externus:
* Origin
* Insertion
* Nerve supply
* Action
A
- Origin - obturator membrane, anterior bony margin of the obturator foramen and ischiopubic ramus.
- Insertion - posterior neck of femur - trochanteric fossa.
- Nerve supply - Posterior division of obturator nerve (L2-4).
- Action - hip ER.
