Q

Course of obturator nerve

A

It passes through the obturator canal and there it divide to anterior and posterior division.

Anterior division:
* It passes in front of obturator externus
*then passes behind pectineus and adductor longus
* Again pass infront of adductor breves.

Posterior division:
* It pierces obturator externus.
*passes behind adductor breves
*passes infront of adductor Magnus.

Q

Muscles supplied by anterior obturator nerve

A

Adductor breves
Adductor longus
Pectineus
Gracilis
Articular twig to hip joint
Twig to subsartorial plexus of nerves
Terminates by supplying femoral artery in adductor canal.

Q

Terminal branch of posterior obturator nerve

A

Terminal branch is known as genicular branch.
Pierces adductor Magnus or passes through adductor hiatus to reach popliteal fossa.
Passes along with popliteal vessels and pierces oblique popliteal ligament and supplies knee joint.

Q

Adductor spasm of thigh

A

Spastic paraplegia:
*spasm of adductors in thigh
* severe pain in the inner aspect of thigh
* relieved by surgical division of obturator nerve.

Q

Gracilis graft

A

Because of its long length, location of nutrient vessels and nerve in terminal part it is used to graft in damaged external anal sphincter due to pelvic trauma and face paralysis.
