Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
1964
Prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, or ethnicity
Forbids sexual harassment
Applies to all organizations with 20+ employees working 20+ weeks a year

Rehabilitation Act
1973- Prohibits discrimination against disabled people
Influenced ADA 1990- Broader definition of “handicapped” - mental & physical impairment, past & present disabilities

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
1990- 13% of the population is disabled
ADA prevents disability & AIDS discrimination from institutions with 15+ employees
Must make accommodations within a 2- year period - unless it causes undue hardship

Widens the definition of disabled
