what is medicare?
Australias universal health insurance scheme, which gives all australians, permament residents, and people from countries with a recripical agreement access to healthcare at a subsidised cost.

Treatment and accomodation in a public hospital

advantages ?
- available to all australians, citizens, residents
- covered GP treatment, specialist fees.
- medicare safety net is available as extra financial support ince an undividual or familys co- payments reach a certain threshold.
disadvantages ?
- no choice of doctor
- long waiting list
- doesnt cover all services such as dental and therapists.
what is scheduled payment ?
Scheduled payment is the amount that medicare will contribute to the health service
what is bulk billing?
Bulk billing is when a doctor or specialist doesnt charge more then the bill.
what is patient co payment ?
Patient copayment is the difference between the schedule fee and the doctor or specialists charge.
what is a medicare safety net?
Medicare safety net protects individuals and their families from large expenses incurred out of pocket costs for medicare.
what is funding?
Funding refers to medicare levy, medicare levy surcharge and general texation
What is medicare Levy?
Additional 2% tax paid by most tax payers
What is Medicare Levy Surcharge?
people who do not have private health insurance but have a salary of $90 000 as an indivual and $180000 as a family pays an extra 1-1.5% of their income into medicare
What is general taxation?
General taxes collected by the federal government to help the running costs of medicare
