What is sitagliptin and how it works?
Sitagliptin belongs to the drug class DPP-4 inhibitors. The brand name for sitagliptin is Januvia.
You can take this drug on its own if metformin isn’t suitable for you, and it can be used with other diabetes medications.
There is another medication that has both sitagliptin and metformin in one tablet, which has the brand name Janumet.

When to stop sitagliptin?
Common symptom is a headache.
Discontinue when symptoms of acute pancreatitis occurs (such as severe abdominal pain).
When to adjust sitagliptin dose?
Reduce dose to 50 mg once daily if eGFR 30–45 mL/minute/1.73 m2.
Reduce dose to 25 mg once daily if eGFR less than 30 mL/minute/1.73 m2.
Sitagliptin/metformin
Sitagliptin/metformin are taken in combination tablet when CBG is not controlled well with metformin alone.
