What are antidepressants?
Medications used to treat major depressive disorder, some anxiety disorders and related conditions
How often are Antidepressants given?
One dose/day for 4-6 weeks to see results
What are SSRIs?
Selective serotonin reputable inhibitors. SSRIs treat depression by increasing levels of serotonin in the brain by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin into neutrons.
What are the difference types of SSRIs (antidepressants used in the CAFS unit) ?
Fluoxetine (Prozac), citalopram (celexa), and Sertraline
What are SNRIs?
Serotonin-norepinephrine reputable inhibitors. Unlike SSRIs they impact both serotonin an norepinephrine
What is the type of SNRI that we use in the CAFs unit?
Venlafaxine
How much Citalopram would we give per day?
10-80mg
How much Fluoxetine would we give per day?
10-60mg
How much Sertaline would we give per day?
25-200mg
How much venlafaxine would we give per day?
37.5 - 375mg per day
Are are Tricyclics (TCAs)?
A class of antidepressants that have 3 rings in their chemical structure and inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. They are one of the first approved antidepressants developed
What are the different types of TCAs?
Nortripyline and Amitriptyline
What is the type of tetracylic that we would use in the CAFs unit?
Mitrazepine
How much Mitrazepine would be administer per day?
15-45mg/day
How much Nortriptyline would we give per day?
Up to 200mg per day (25mg/tid/qid) - base this off weight when dealing with children
How much amitriptyline would we give administer a patient?
Up to 200mg per day
