A

Selective serotonin reputable inhibitors. SSRIs treat depression by increasing levels of serotonin in the brain by blocking the reabsorption of serotonin into neutrons.

A

What are MAOIs (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors)?

A

These are a type of antidepressants when there are no other options. As you cannot drink alcohol or eat food that contains tyramine (cheese, yoghurt, marmite ect) while taking an MAOI.

A

Moclobemide, we need to consider tyramide issues (no cheese, yoghurt, marmite ect), and that this may interact with other antidepressants.

A

What are Benxodiapines?

A

A class of drug prescribed to treat many conditions including severe anxiety, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, and muscle spasms as they have a calming and relaxing effect

A

That they should only be used for a short time and only if another treatment isn’t working. They can be very addictive.
