meiosis Flashcards
(9 cards)
what does meiosis in humans involve?
sperm, egg
what does meiosis in plants include?
pollen, ovules
difference between meiosis and mitosis?
meiosis- daughter cells have half the DNA or half the number of chromosomes as the original cell.
mitosis- creates identical daughter cells with same amount of DNA as original cell
what is independant assortment?
where chromosomes line up on the equator randomly, this creates more genetic variation.
what are the density dependant factors? (PANDA)
Predators
Availability of resources
Nutrient supply
Disease
Accumulation of waste
what are the density independent factors? (PAW)
Phenomena
Abiotic factors
Weather conditions
what is directional selection?
favours one extreme phenotype, eg antibiotic resistant bacteria .
stabilising selection
favours the mean, eg infants of average birth weight have a higher survival rate.
how do bacteria reproduce?
binary fission
