Q

What are the stages of meiosis?

A

1) Prophase 1
2) Metaphase 1h
3) Anaphase 1
4) Telophase 1
Cytokinesis
Interphase
*the same steps 1-4 occur again only with “2’s” following them
*remember PMAT for the order and names

16
Q

How are DNA and chromosomes related?

A

chromosomes are made of tightly wound DNA

17
Q

Meiosis vs Mitosis?

A

Meiosis: 4 cells are formed, 2 cell divisions occur, sex cells and 1/2 DNA
Mitosis: 2 cells are formed, 1 cell division, body cells and same DNA

18
Q

Why do sexually reproducing organisms have to use a second cell division like meiosis?

A

because you have to cut it in half, if you left the DNA whole you would have to much DNA. You only need a set form each parent.
