Membrane Proteins Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Membrane Proteins
A
Responsible for membrane functions
Proteins associate with membrane in various ways:
Transmembrane
Integral
Peripheral
2
Q
Membrane proteins cross the lipid bilayer
A
SINGLE-PASS PROTEINS: cross once as a single alpha helix
MULTI-PASS PROTEINS: cross multiple times as series of a-helix or as beta helix (closed barrel)
3
Q
Majority of membrane proteins are glycosylated in eukaryotes
A
Sugars are added in lumen of ER & Golgi
Oligosaccharide chains are always present on noncytosolic side
4
Q
Some membrane proteins are ASSOCIATED (verbunden)
A
Attached to either side of the membrane
- bound by noncovalent interactions with TM proteins
- bound via covalently attached lipid groups
