Memory Flashcards
What is memory?
The faculty of encoding, storing and retrieving information.
What is Short-Term memory (STM)?
The limited capacity memory store, the duration is around 18 seconds.
What is Long-Term memory (LTM)?
The permanent memory store can store memories for up to a life-time.
What is coding?
The format in which information is stored in memory stores.
What is a cognitive interview?
A method of interviewing eyewitnesses to help them retrieve more accurate memories.
What are leading questions?
A question which, because of the way it’s phrased, then suggests a certain answer.
What is the Multi-Store Model?
A representation on how memory works in terms of three stores called the sensory register.
What is the sensory register?
The memory stores for each of our five senses.
What is Episodic memory?
A long term memory store for personal events.
What is Semantic memory?
A long term memory store for our knowledge of the world.
What is Procedural memory?
A long term memory store for our knowledge of how to do things.
What is the Working Memory Model (WMM)?
A representation of short term memory, it suggests that STM is a dynamic processor of different types of information using sub-units coordinated by a central decision making system.
What is the Central Executive (CE)?
The component of the WMM that coordinates the activities of the three sub-systems in memory.
What is misleading information?
Incorrect information given to an eyewitness usually after the event.
What is the Phonological Loop (PL)?
The component of the WMM that processes information in terms of sound. This is written and spoken.
