Q

study of coding in STM and LTM

A
  • baddeley asked patients to memorize acoustically or semantically similar words. Immediate recal was worse with acoustically similar words, recall after 20 mins was worse with semantically.

limitation : words had no personal meaning to participants, results had limited application, causious abt generlaising.

Q

study into the capacity of STM

A
  • jacobs read 4 digits and increased the no. digits till participant couldnt recall order.

Q

study into the duration of STM

A
  • peterson and peterson gave students a consonant syllable to remember and a 3 digit no. to count backwards. for a certian amount of time.
  • average recall was lowest at 18 seconds, suggesting STM have a duration of 18 to 30 secs.

limitation : has no real life application, memorising consonant syllables, lacks extrernal validity.
