Sentence Meaning

A

Need Semantic STM for sentence meaning
Retains items that are not yet integrated into the sentence meaning (ex. if an adjective is used before the subject, semantic STM retains the adjective)

Prototypes Theory

A

A theory of Categorisation (a way to help us know what a word means)

  • Summary representation
  • assumption: the prototype actually exists in memory
  • prototype has all the essential features
  • unimportant features are not included in the prototype

A

A theory of catergoisation

-Use similarity between stored exemplars to ategorise new objects (no prototype to compare to)
