(high at the start of the cycle then falls before rising at end of cycle)
Follicle stimulating hormone
released from pituitary gland
causes egg to mature in ovary
stimulates ovaries to release the hormone oestrogen
oestrogen
( low at start of cycle then increases up to day 12 before decreasing again)
rekeased from the ovary
causes the lining of the uterus to develop
inhibits release of fsh- so only on egg matures in cycle
stimulates the pituray gland to release the hormone lh to allow ovulation
lh
(low throughout cycle apart from peak at day 14 ovulation)
luteinizing hormone
released from pitiuary gland
causes mature egg to be released from ovary
progesterone
(starts to decrease at day 14 and remains high until day 23)
released from the ovary
it maintains lining of the uterus during the middle part of the c ycle and during pregnancy
it inhibits release of fsh and lh to prevent eggs being matured and released until next cycle
