Onset is 3-5 days from birth
Can last up to 6 weeks postpartum

Depression with happy moments
- so not constant

It’ll go away either on its own or with support

Who is this common in?

A

More serious than postpartum blues bc it is disabling to the point she can’t care for herself or kids

  • 1/8 moms
  • common in first PG

What is onset like of postpartum depression?

A

It is delayed bc it can be an extension of the blues .

6-12 months but it can happen 4th week os postpartum so there’s no real timeline. Just that it persists

A

Hormone changes from PG

Stress or major life events

Lack of support

What type of hx means increased risk of post partum depression?

What happens if mom has no support?

A

Hx of depression before PG or depression and anxiety during PG.

No support = increased risk of depression

- domestic violence
