Between the rivers.
What is the geography and climate of northern Mesopotamia?
It was hilly and received rain.
What is the geography and climate of the southern part of Mesopotamia?
It had low plains (flat land) and hot.
What are the 4 problems and solutions?
Problem 1; food shortages in zagros foothills
Solution 1; they moved to Sumer (plains)
Problem 2; uncontrollable water supply
Solution 2; built an irrigation system-canals, dams, levees
Problem 3; maintaining a complex irrigation system
Solution 3; villages worked together to clean system- villages became towns which became cities
Problem 4; violence over access to water
Solution 4; built walls around cities

Sumer is southern Mesopotamia.
What does irrigation mean?
A means of supplying land with water.
What is levee mean?
A wall of earth built to stop a river from flooding.
What does silt mean?
Fine particles of rock.
What does city-state mean?
An early city that has its own laws and government.
What factors caused Mesopotamia to become city-states?
Building walls around the towns.
