It means between the rivers.

Between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.

Euphrates on the left and so on.

Mountains, Rain.
What is the geography of the southern part of Mesopotamia?
Plains, dry.
What are some problems Mesopotamia faced?
Silt, attacks from other villages, and flooding.
What are the solutions to those problems?
Sending farmers to clean the silt out, building walls around their villages, and building levees.
What does silt mean?
Fine particles of rock.
What does irrigation mean?
A means of supplying land with water.
What does levee mean?
A wall of earth built to prevent a river from flooding its banks.
What does city-state mean?
An early city that was like a small independent country with its own laws and government.
