MET upper extremity Flashcards
(10 cards)
Upper traps
Passively side bend Cspine while stabilising right shoulder. Find the bind from this point.
Can either ask Pt to side bend the Csp or elevate shoulder. Or Pt can do both if they are a more able body.
Lengthen the traps each time by adding more side bend, depressing the shoulder or both.
Levator scapulae
Put Pts head into side bend + flexion. Further flexion and rotation to stretch.
SCM
Pillow under shoulder blades, Full CSp rotation. Lower head down into couch to stretch.
Can also lengthen by pushing down sternum, put hand ontop of theirs for female Pts.
Scalenes
Pillow under shoulder blades, Full CSp rotation.
One hand on temporal bone other on clavicle ontop of Pts opposite side hand.
Push in on their hand/clavicle to stretch scalenes.
Full rotation for posterior fibres
Half for medial
No rot for ant fibres
Pec major
Arm abducted 90deg (sternal head) or 110 (clavicular head), elbow bent 90 and Pt resting hand on your forearm. One hand on shoulder other in cubital fossa resisting Pt pushing up.
Push elbow down further to stretch.
Alternatives to Pec Mjr
Pt sitting but same process.
Sitting bilaterally - hands on back of hips to protract scapulas, bring elbows together to introduce stretch.
Pec Minor
Pt side lying, cradle scapula with hand furthest from Pts head, other hand resisting Pt trying to bring shoulder forward. Push shoulder further back to introduce stretch.
Latissimus dorsi
Stand at the head of couch, Resist Pt trying to adduct arm into side. Pull arm further back/push down on iliac crest to intro stretch.
Or can be done sitting with brining arm across body and adding rotation.
Subscapularis + teres major
Take shoulder into external rotation and resist internal rotation.
Stretch by increasing external rot but add traction to prevent impingement Px.
Infraspinatus + teres minor
Take shoulder into internal rot, resist external rot.
Add internal rotation.
