What’s the ocular lens
the lens you look through (usually 10x)
What are the objective lens’
Usually three or four lenses with different magnifications (e.g., 4x, 10x, 40x, 100x).
What’s a revolving nosepiece
Holds the objective lenses and lets you rotate to switch between them.
What’s a light source
A bulb or mirror that provides light to illuminate the specimen.
What’s a condenser
Focuses light onto the specimen.
Diaphragm
Controls the amount of light that reaches the specimen.
Whats a stage
The flat platform where you place the slide.
What’s course focus
Moves the stage up and down quickly for general focusing.
What’s a fine adjustment knob
Moves the stage slightly for sharp, detailed focus.
What’s the base
The bottom part that supports the microscope.
What’s the arm
Connects the base to the head and is used to carry the microscope.
