- Theseus
Duke of Athens and is planning his marriage with Hippolyta. Egeus comes to him to whine about how his daughter is not marrying who he chooses.
Hippolyta
Is Theseus’s fiancée. She fell in love with him when he was in Amazon.
Egeus
He a citizen of Athens, who has a disobedient daughter who does not want to marry the man he chose: Demetrius. He comes to the duke to complain about this issue. He demands that the law punish Hermia.
Hermia
She is the daughter of Egeus. She loves Lysander but her father wants her to marry Demetrius. Theseus sentences her to death if she does not comply. She plans to run away and elope with Lysander.
Lysander
Hermia and he are in love. He plans to elope with her and go to his aunt’s place who lives outside of Athens so the city’s rules will not follow.
Demetrius
He loves Hermia, who does not love him back. He was once engaged with Helena.
Helena
She is Hermia’s friend, who knows about her plan to elope. She plans to tell Demetrius, so when he goes to find Hermia, Helena will be there too. She wants him to love her again.
Titania
She is the queen of Fairyland. She has a fight with her husband Oberon because she loved Theseus and he loved Hippolyta. She is diverting that conflict with caring completely over an Indian boy, who was the son of a woman that Titania knew. She is under a love spell that makes her love Bottom who has a horse head.
Oberon
He is the king of Fairyland. He has a fight with his wife Titania because she loved Theseus and he loved Hippolyta. He is diverting that conflict by wanting an Indian boy that Titania spends too much time with. Therefore, he casts a spell on her to love a man with a horse head.
Puck/Robin Goodfellow
He follows instructs from Oberon to cast a spell on Titania and Demetrius. But he messes up and puts the spell on Lysander to love Helena.
Rude Mechanicals
This a group that puts up a play. The leader is Peter Quince, the carpenter. He directs the play and gives out the parts. There’s snug, flute, starveling, snout, and Bottom. Snug is the loin. Bottom is egotistical and is Pyramus. Flute plays Thisbe. Snout who plays the walls. Starveling is moonshine.
Bottom
An actor staring in Pyramus and Thebes. He has a donkey’s head on him, but does not know. He is happy that the queen loves him. He is later transformed.
