How did Charlemagne use monks and why?
He used them as servants to report on various counts throughout his kingdom. They could be trusted due to their pledge of honesty.
What were indulgences and why/how were they used?
They were sold as a way to finance the church’s special programs like the crusades. It was a parchment sold to save one’s soul from purgatory. They were also called “Passports to Paradise”.
What is the difference between a monk and a friar?
A monk worked in a monastery and a friar traveled from place to place to preach much like a modern day missionary.
