Adhan/Ezan

a large country in north Africa that borders Morocco on the west and Tunisia and Libya on the east. The capital of Algeria is Algiers. Colonized by France from 1830-1848
Andalusian Music
Andalusian music is a genre of music that originated in the Andalusian region of spain, and spread into morocco and algeria when the Jewish and Muslim people were expelled from Andalusia in 1492. Repetition is very important to trance music from this area. Repeated instrumental motifs, and vocal melody that repeat.
Basraf/Peşrev
an instrumental section of the classical suite from turkey that includes for independent verses (hane) and a refrain (teslim) repeated after every verse. Each Hane modulates to different maqams, but the teslims are always in the home/starting makam.

The opening Gushe of a Dastgah. The Daramad serves as a prelude/introduction, and determines the principal mode of the Dastgah.
Dastgah
A persian suite form, literaly translating to collection of sound/pitches. There are at least 7 (some say 12) dastgah. one of these is Shur. It is a cyclical form with central modal and melodic qualities
Dhikr/Zikir
a remembrance trance, typical of sufism. Done in a circle with movement, music, and breathing. In the Zikir ceremony, the words La Ilaha Illallah in rhythm, and increasing speed and moving up by step in different modes

A suite form in turkish classical music, which includes a taksim, pesrev, beste, and semai.
