Accreditation- process validates the effectiveness and safety of care being rendered. Helps for marketing excellence.
Regulation- health care organizations are responsible for the level of competency. Emphasize specific job related aspects of safety and infection prevention and control. Methods of training. When and how to report adverse and sentinel events.
Progressive discipline
Progressive discipline is defined as a process or method that attempts to address and correct an employee’s work performance or inappropriate workplace behavior by providing clear and constructive feedback through a series of increasingly formal steps.
Role of BON
Uncovering suspected substance issues, unsafe practice. Nurse referred for assistance and monitored by the state. Accreditation and regulation of schools.
Steps to licensure
Apply for licensure through the NMBON.
Register for NCLEX.
Receive confirmation of registration for Pearson VUE. Receive eligibility from the state.
Receive authorization to test from Pearson.
Schedule a test time. Present one form of ID.

Centralized vs decentralized
C- hierarchy that follows a chain of command and is characterized by top-down decision making. The more decision making that is pushed down than the more decentralized it becomes.
D- lower level managers and staff have an increased opportunity for shared governance and report greater job satisfaction scores.
Patient care delivery models/systems
Delineates RN authority and accountability for clinical decision making.

Workplace violence

De-escalation
Present a calm, caring attitude.
• Do not match the threats.
• Do not give orders.
• Acknowledge the person’s feelings (e.g., “I know you are frustrated”).
• Avoid any behavior that may be interpreted as aggressive (e.g., moving rapidly, getting too close, touching, or speaking loudly).
Be alert.
• Evaluate each situation for potential violence when you enter a room or begin to relate to a staff member, patient, or visitor.
• Be vigilant throughout the encounter.
• Do not isolate yourself with a potentially violent person.
• Always keep an open path for exiting—do not let the potentially violent person stand between you and the door.
Take these steps if you cannot defuse the situation quickly.
• Remove yourself from the situation.
Call security. Report to your manager.
Conflict resolution
Determine the basis of the conflict. (Interpersonal, group, organizational).
Analyze the source of the conflict.(cultural, perception, roles, communication).
Consider alternative approaches.(avoiding, accommodate, compromise, competing).
