A dhow is a sailboat. This is relevant as it contributed to Swahili’s coastal culture by allowing for sea faring trade.

Herodotus was an ancient Greek historian and geographer. He is relevant because he ventured to Africa in his time and visited Egypt, creating one of the key pieces of evidence of Egyptians being black through his first hand account.
