Midterm - Statistics Flashcards
(10 cards)
Nominal Data
Classification of categorical variables without quantitative data, i.e. gender or color.
Ordinal Data
Type of data in which values follow a natural order i.e. rating “excellent”, “good”, “average”, “bad”
Categorical data
Represents categories or classes i.e. gender or color.
- Nominal Data
- Ordinal Data
Numerical Data
Numbers representing data i.e. rain level, humidity.
- Discrete Data
- Continuous Data
Discrete Data
Can only take certain values i.e. # of people in a group
Continuous Data
Can have almost any numeric values i.e. height/weight
Descriptive Statistics
Ways to explore observed data through visualizations and numerical summaries. Mean, median, mode, range, std dev, variance.
Inferential Statistics
Modeling and estimation & allow for conclusions about a population given a sample.
Sampling Methods
A process by which observational units are selected from the population to be included in the sample.
Random sampling, stratified sampling, cluster sampling
Stratified Sampling
