Milgram got the participants to be the teacher role and the actor in the learner role, the teacher asked the learner questions and if gotten wrong administered an increasing electrical shock up to one labeled extreme danger.

That 65% of participants continued to the maximum shock level and many showed signs of distress however nobody stopped before 300v

That average people are likely to obey authority figures when given orders

Their have been replications of Milgrams study in different countries to account for cultural differences
It was in a labratory so variables were more easily controlled meaning a cause and effect relationship can more easily be established
What are the weaknesses of Milgrams study
It had many ethical breaches e.g deception, emotional harm and lack of the right to withdraw
Lacks ecological validity as administering electrical shocks is not realistic
Small sample size of 40 meaning it cannot be generalised to the wider population
Only one gender was used
