What are the rules of splinting?

A
  • immobilise joint above and below injury
  • align only if necessary
  • allow patient to direct comfort
  • ensure circulation and neurological function
  • evidence suggests most of head, upper limbs and thorax (excluding spine) fractures do not need splinting in traditional sense
