On an IFR (GPS) NAVIGATION & APPROACH, what are the CDI SENSITIVITY RANGES and POINTS of switch over?

A

CDI sensitivity on IFR-certified GPS receivers varies with the phase of flight. When more than 30 nm from either the departure or destination airport, the receiver operates in EN-ROUTE MODE.
In this mode, the CDI depicts a total course width of 10 nm (i.e., full needle deflection equals 5 nm).

Within 30 nm of either the departure or destination airport, the receiver operates in TERMINAL MODE, and total course width becomes 2 nm (i.e., full needle deflection equals 1 nm).

Finally, within 2 nm of the final approach fix (inbound), the receiver automatically enters APPROACH MODE. Total course width becomes 0.6 nm (i.e, full needle deflection equals 0.3 nm).
